animal bedding unit retired
28/01/2010

The GREAN shredding/baling unit ready to go back to Norwich after 8 years in Golspie.
After eight years service our paper shredding/baling unit has come to the end of its productive life, and production of animal bedding by GREAN has ceased. It is being returned to its manufacturer for refurbishing and reuse. Shredded paper animal bedding was the first product of GREAN in 2002 and the collection of newspaper for shredding was what began our diversion of waste from landfill with 1.5 employees. Increasing pressure on labour and space, together with increasing repair costs prompted the disposal. The product, although proved useful for a number of agricultural options, did not attract much local interest, and the majority of the bales went for horse bedding in the Inner Moray firth area. The funding for this machinery came from the Scottish Executive through The Highland Council which kick started GREAN’s waste diversion activity which now employs 22 full time.
